SEDUM SEDUMSummary A common name for Sedum is stonecrop. There are various types of sedum all of which have plump succulent foliage. Because of its thick, moist leaves which stores water, sedum is extremely drought tolerant. The Sedum plant can endure even the hottest spots on the patio or balcony area when planted in a tub or clay pot because of its ability to retains moisture in it’s foliage. There are low-growing varieties of Sedum that grow close to the ground and may only reach 2” in height, making this Sedum variety a perfect choice for rock gardens and ideal perennial plant for ground cover. The taller varieties really command attention when planted as a perennial border showing off it’s dense foliage and large flower heads, a real eye catcher.Normally grown for their unusual foliage there are many types of sedum that are topped by starry flowers that begin to bloom in late summer and fall seasons, which attracts butterflies. Attracting butterflies with flower colors of red, pink, gold, yellow, and white this blooms are also excellent for cut flowers.Sedum is an incredibly easy to care for, a plant with very low maintenance but stills needs a well-drained soil, this is essential to ward off fungal diseases, especially during wet summers. In general though this plant is not usually bothered by pests or diseases.
